Leading-edge modifications for stall delay
My final-year project. Wind-tunnel tests and CFD to find out how leading-edge modifications delay stall on a wing.
Space mission design
Group mission-design assignment. I’m the team’s project manager.

Quadcopter modelling in MATLAB and Simulink
I finished Dynamics and Control with 99%. In its labs I modelled a 6.3 kg quadcopter’s vertical motion from first principles, built the model in Simulink, linearised it about hover and analysed its responses in MATLAB, then measured the kinematics of a six-axis robot arm, a four-legged robot and a drone.
Soft-jaw fixture and CNC process plan
I designed a V-groove soft jaw that holds Ø30–50 mm bars upright in a vice, a 21-blank batch fixture to machine it, and the SolidCAM program, then planned the processes for a keyed bush and analysed quality and carbon footprint.
Operation River Clean Up
An eight-person systems-engineering design for an autonomous system that collects floating plastic from Manila’s Pasig River without blocking its ferry traffic. We took it from stakeholder needs to a concept design, cost estimate and test plan. I was the group leader, project manager and validation lead.
Peppa Punch combat robot
I led a seven-person team to design, build and fight a featherweight combat robot to Fighting Robots Association rules in the module’s Robot Wars competition. As group leader I ran the plan in ProjectLibre, allocated roles and was the team’s link to our lecturers and technicians. I also led the CAD and welding, and welded the frame myself.
Thermofluids laboratory programme
I led a group of five through five thermofluids experiments in duct flow, energy conservation, refrigeration, heat exchange and buoyancy. I planned our work in ProjectLibre and wrote the fluid-flow section, measuring air flow in a duct with a Venturi tube, an orifice plate and a Pitot tube.

Energy systems laboratory test
Online test on the module’s laboratory work: engine test-bed performance (fuel consumption, exhaust heat loss, displacement and compression ratio), slider-crank kinematics, Aspen HYSYS stream states and Rankine-cycle efficiency, aerofoil lift and drag from wind-tunnel rig data, Pitot-tube speeds, vehicle dynamics and MATLAB. With the module’s written exam, I finished Energy Systems with 84%.
Numerical methods in MATLAB
Implemented root-finding and numerical integration in MATLAB, and wrote scripts to plot analytical solutions and check them against numerical and experimental data.
Engineers Without Borders challenge
An eleven-person poster project for the Engineering for People Design Challenge in Govan, Glasgow. Our team proposed skirting-board heating to tackle damp, cold housing and fuel poverty. I researched Govan’s context and the materials, and presented the maintenance and hygiene case.
Flowmeter circuit board
In the electronics and soldering workshop I built and tested a flowmeter circuit that turns a paddlewheel’s rotation into a DC voltage proportional to its speed.
Engineering ethics, careers and reflection
Analysed the Challenger disaster against the IET and IMechE codes of conduct, with shorter notes on Therac-25 and Flint, and e-waste as a sustainability issue. Reflected on adapting when my EWB concepts weren’t chosen, planned my time with a weekly study-time calculator and a priority grid, and completed a 43-point skills audit with STAR examples, a CV and a practice cover letter.
Workshop skills
Built and tested a flowmeter circuit board in the electronics and soldering workshop, attended a welding workshop and reviewed nine welding processes (including MIG, TIG, MMA, spot and friction welding), and compared manual and CNC turning and milling.
Lemon Launcher water rocket
A ten-person team’s 2 litre water rocket with a 3D-printed nose cone, fin sleeve and fins, designed as an educational kit with micro:bit telemetry. I was in the research team and researched the materials for the printed parts.
Track tensioner
A portable, hand-operated ratchet-and-pawl tool that tensions the wire track rocket cars race along. I took it from a need statement and ten requirements to concept selection, sizing and a full set of SolidWorks and hand drawings.
Stress analysis and material selection
Stress-strain analysis, safety-factor calculations, and material and process selection for engineering components.
